It's been a little while since I've blogged. A few reasons for that. Let me get you all caught up on our crazy lives.
Most of you know that Jon has left for training in California to prepare him for his deployment this spring to Afghanistan. When he left, he took with him our laptop. We also have our Mac desktop but it's old and I was unable to run blogger on it. Because of that, I haven't been able to update the blog. But now, I have my very own MacBook (it's so pretty) so here we go!
This year, we decided to throw our first ever New Years Eve party. We invited all of our closest friends, sent the kids over to Erin's house (next door) with Cassie and her son Drew to watch. We had tons to eat and we spent the night rocking out to Band and Guitar Hero. We rung in the New Year to 'Jessie's Girl".
On January 4th, the kids headed back to school and Jon and I headed up to New Bern to trade in the Commander for our new van. A 2010 Honda Odyssey, Touring Edition. This is the van that beats all vans. There are so many buttons and voice commands that I STILL haven't figured them all out yet. We decided to trade in the Commander since it kept breaking down on us. The last time, 2 days before Christmas was the last straw. Jon knew he'd have a better piece of mind while deployed if he knew I would have a reliable car. I told him I wouldn't be caught dead in another minivan unless it was the 'Be All, End All' of vans. We had been researching the Odyssey for a while anyway so we found our selves a local dealer and made way. The whole experience was easy as pie. The kids were ecstatic when we got home. I swear, these kids have NO IDEA how good they have it now a days. Entertainment systems, headphone, separate jacks to listen to different channels. Our idea of entertainment back when we were kids was to secretly make nasty faces to each other while Mom & Dad weren't looking and wipe boogers under the seats. All I have to say is when I make the journey back to Michigan this summer, those kids better not complain ONCE!!!! ;)
After that, the count down was really on for Jon to leave. He had less than a week left and we did as much as we could as a family. On Sunday, January 10th, Jon headed out to California for training. The first day was hard. Especially seeing as it was a Sunday. Coming back home and realizing that you basically have 9 months before you can physically see each other again is a hard thing. It got easier as I finished washing and putting away all the clothes that are his and the kids started school. I made myself get into a routine and I have found that it really helps keep me busy. I have also started going to the gym a lot more regularly. I have an awesome set of work out buddies that keep me motivated and help me not feel like that only dumb chick trying to figure out how to work the weight machines.
So far since Jon's been gone I have had Book Club, gone to a Pampered Chef party, dressed the boys in Super Hero costumes for Super Hero Day at school, taken the kids to the movies, gone to Gourmet Club and volunteered at the school.
I'm also happy to report that the kids report cards came in. Cassie has received all A's and B's. Both the boys are doing PERFECT in school. Jack got to be VIP the first week that Jon left. His class doesn't do as much as Jason's did, but he still got a certificate with a special shout out during school and he also was able to eat at the VIP Breakfast table with his Mommy and brother.
I've also developed a new hobby. Card making! Poor Jon just sighs whenever I talk to him on the phone about how I'm needed to up my stock in card making supplies. But he supports me in whatever I want to do. There are basically four of us girls that get together as often as possible to make these. Jill, Gia, Erin and I. We had a wonderful evening a week or so ago. We all met over at Erin's. We had guacamole and humus and lots of wine. We laughed, talked and tried to make some decent cards. It really has been a real blessing to have something like this to occupy my spare time so I don't miss my hubby so much.
As for Jon, he's doing okay. He's been through a lot of PT'ing, a lot of training, a lot of yo-yo information. I'll keep everyone updated as much as I'm allowed with info on him. But for now, he's enjoying being on the 'Greenside'.
There's the cliff notes version of our lives the last month and a half. Now that I'm back up and running, you'll be getting more updates from us Hammies. You know you've missed us!
